Review - 2018 Summer Course Week 2

Updated: Mar 25, 2023

The topic of the week was jobs. We introduced a wide range of occupations to the students, both conventional ones and novel ones were discussed, these included photographers, politicians and even plant educators. We led our students to understand their own strengths and weaknesses and encouraged them to set up early-life goals, which we discovered were neglected among the children.

Some of the students wanted to pursue their own dreams and some made the decision to continue doing what their parents do for work.

One of the students thought about an interesting future job, an insect organ creator. The creator has to help insects create new organs.

The students also bounced their ideas backwards and forwards to analyse some jobs. In their view, a good thing about being a teacher is that you can release your stress on students, a bad thing about being a farmer is that you might get smelly. If you become a cook you might have the opportunity to become famous and a risk to be a baker is that you could burn yourself. The brainstorming process helped them think more deeply about jobs and understand what job might suit their needs and personalities.

At the end, the students were asked to visualise their life map. We certainly understandd that students will change their minds about what they will do. However, it hopefully gave them a clue about what their life might be in the future.
